Micharne Cloughley

Micharne Cloughley holds a Graduate Diploma of Dramatic Art in Playwriting from the National Institute of Dramatic Art and a BA in Television Production from Charles Sturt University. She is currently a staff writer on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC), co-writing the episodes “The Burden of Our Choices,” “At Midnight in Manhattan,” “Dance, Lies and Video Tape,” and “Garland’s Baptism by Fire.” As a playwright, Micharne was the 2016 Friends Creative Arts Fellow at the National Library of Australia, developing her play My Strong Female Ego using the Hazel de Berg oral history collection. In 2015, Micharne wrote The Way They Live, and co-wrote The End and the Beginning, which were both performed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. These plays were produced by The Civilians, the first theatre company to be in residence with the Museum. Other plays include 99 Phone Calls You Shouldn’t Have Made, Masters of F*** All, Not That Kind of Doll and One Flesh.

Micharne’s work has been developed or presented in New York by Animus Theatre Company, Australian Made Entertainment, and NYC Playwrights, and in Australia by Holden Street Theatres, Rock Surfers Theatre Company, Playwriting Australia, Griffin Theatre Company, Baggage Productions, and the Q Theatre. She has also served as Literary Associate for The Civilians, and was dramaturg for Be the Death of Me, which premiered at the Irondale Center. As a screenwriter, Micharne’s pilot What I Learned from American Men, was developed at The Tank in New York in 2016. She co-wrote the NYC 48-Hour Film Projects Free Bike and Perspective that were awarded an Audience Choice Award (2012) and Best Product Integration (2013), respectively. She was also a writer for the Think(it) Film Assembly for the web series My Secret Friend (2012). As a development producer and researcher in the film and TV industries, Micharne has worked across the development, production and casting of new projects. She has worked for international companies including Eyeworks, Endemol, Fremantle Media, and Indievillage. In casting, she assisted on the films Unbroken, The Water Diviner, Backtrack, Strangerland and Gods of Egypt.
